I have a crush on a girl I have met and have been lightly talking to for a some time now. I really want her number, and I was planning to invite her out with a couple friends we have in common but the only person I have in mind is someone who is best friends with both of us. Meaning he’d go but she would probably end up talking to him most of the night.

My quick answer to this question:

I think you’re way overidealizing this chick dude. You haven’t even gotten to know her, and no, viewing her from afar doesn’t give you enough info to know if she’s right for you. Here’s how to treat it. Have the (objective and realistic) frame of mind that she looks ok, but you’d like to befriend her first and see if she really is worth more.

So if you have this frame of mind, its really easy to see things. Has she earned the right that you spend all this effort trying to figure out how to get her number? YOU DONT EVEN KNOW YET if you NEED HER NUMBER. She might turn out boring, drama-queen, complete mess when you talk to her more closely. Get to know her first. That is your goal.

So just set up a going out even with all of you (your mutual friend), and OTHER PEOPLE TOO. Let things happen naturally. If she spends most of the night ignoring you, then she’s not really worth your time is she? A girl you’re compatible with would have the natural inclination to wanna get to know you more. So just give her the chance. Throw a party and invite a bunch of people, her, mutual friend, her friends, your friends. And get to know her.

If things feel right, THEN ask her for her phone on the spot, and as it happens organically and its own. Don’t go in there with the goal of getting her number. Go in there with the goal of getting to know who she is as a person and whether you WANT the number in the first place!!
